Chapter 6 - The Faked Death

Clara gasped in absolute disbelief as David quickly unlocked the heavy steel handcuffs binding her bruised and bloody wrists.
He grabbed her arm and pulled her urgently out of the wrecked police cruiser, guiding her toward the idling black SUV.
"I do not have time to explain everything right now, Clara, we have to move before backup arrives," David ordered in a harsh whisper.
They climbed into the back of the armored vehicle, and a silent, heavily armed driver immediately sped away into the dark, stormy mountains.
Clara stared at the billionaire, utterly bewildered by his sudden resurrection after watching his supposed body bag being rolled out of the mansion.
David handed her a bottle of water and a clean towel, his face pale and covered in a cold, clammy sweat.
He explained that he had suspected Vanessa and Marcus were plotting against him for months, but he lacked the concrete evidence to prove it.
He knew they were slowly poisoning him with a virtually untraceable neurotoxin hidden in his expensive evening whiskey collection.
Instead of confronting them and risking a violent retaliation against Lily, David had secretly hired a private tactical security firm.
He intentionally drank a specialized chemical neutralizing agent that safely simulated the exact biological symptoms of a fatal cardiac arrest.
The paramedics who pronounced him dead at the mansion were actually undercover operatives employed by his own private security team.
They had swapped his temporarily paralyzed body with a weighted medical dummy inside the black body bag before leaving the estate.
Clara listened in sheer awe, realizing that the exhausted, seemingly clueless father was actually a brilliant, calculating tactician playing a very dangerous game.
"I had to let them think they won so they would finally make a massive, undeniable mistake on the record," David explained grimly.
He told Clara that the laptop she had tried to give the police was currently sitting in the evidence locker at the corrupt city precinct.
Marcus had paid off the lead detective to ensure the laptop was completely wiped clean of all the hidden teddy bear footage before trial.
They had absolutely no digital proof left to expose the murder of Lily's mother or the hostile corporate takeover conspiracy.
Clara felt a sickening wave of despair, knowing that without the video evidence, Vanessa would inevitably maintain legal custody of the little girl.
She looked at David, her eyes burning with fierce determination, and told him that they could not leave Lily alone in that house for another night.
David nodded slowly, pulling a heavy, metallic briefcase from underneath the leather seat of the armored SUV.
He opened it to reveal a highly sophisticated array of tactical gear, encrypted communication devices, and several loaded firearms.
He stated that the law could no longer help them, and they were going to have to extract his daughter using absolute, unforgiving force.
As they geared up for the desperate rescue mission, David's encrypted cell phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming emergency alert.

He looked at the bright screen, his face draining of all color as a terrifying, agonizing groan escaped from his throat.
Vanessa had just publicly announced a press conference at the mansion, legally transferring Lily to a permanent overseas boarding school at dawn.
