Chapter 8 - The Maternity Ward

Valerie stood perfectly still by my hospital bed, holding the deadly syringe entirely steady in her burned hand.

She blamed me completely for ruining her perfect plan and severely disfiguring her beautiful face in the apartment fire.

She softly whispered that this mysterious injection would effortlessly stop my baby's heart without leaving a single trace.

I did not scream or beg for mercy, because my protective maternal instincts instantly took over my entire body.

I aggressively kicked my heavy food tray perfectly upward, launching a cup of scalding hot tea directly into her scarred face.

Valerie shrieked in absolute agony, dropping the syringe as the boiling liquid burned her sensitive, damaged skin.

I ripped the intravenous needle violently out of my arm and scrambled out of the opposite side of the bed.

I forcefully smashed my hand against the red emergency code button on the wall to alert the entire hospital floor.

Valerie recovered incredibly fast, wiping the hot tea from her eyes with a feral, terrifying growl.

She lunged fiercely across the mattress, grabbing my hospital gown and pulling me forcefully toward her.

I grabbed a heavy ceramic flower vase from the nightstand and smashed it violently across the side of her head.

She stumbled backward into the medical equipment, completely dazed and bleeding heavily from a deep gash on her temple.

I genuinely thought I had incapacitated her long enough to completely escape through the main door.

But Valerie slowly reached deep into the pockets of her stolen medical scrubs with a wicked, bloody smile.

She pulled out a heavy, dark handgun completely equipped with a long, metallic silencer.
