Chapter 5 - The Confrontation

Alex pounded his heavy fists violently against the wooden door of Valerie’s upscale apartment.

He had completely lost his badge, his wife, and his entire reputation in a matter of twenty-four hours.

He fiercely demanded that she open the door and explain why she had faked a pregnancy in the middle of a tragedy.

The door slowly clicked open, revealing Valerie standing in a beautiful silk robe with a completely unhinged smile.

She casually invited him inside, pouring two glasses of expensive red wine as if nothing was wrong.

Alex aggressively knocked the glass out of her hand, screaming that she had permanently ruined his entire life.

Valerie laughed a deeply hollow, terrifying laugh that made his blood run completely cold.

She proudly confessed that she had deliberately trapped me in the elevator to finally prove that he still loved her more.

She stated that his decision to carry her out first was the absolute ultimate proof of their eternal soulmate connection.

Alex stared at her in absolute, horrified disbelief, finally realizing the true monster hiding behind her pretty face.

He pulled his phone from his pocket and loudly declared that he was calling the police to report her for attempted murder.

Valerie did not even flinch at the threat.

She casually walked over to the front door, locked the heavy deadbolt, and threw the only key out the open window.

She then kicked over a hidden metal canister, spilling highly flammable gasoline entirely across the hardwood floor.

She struck a single match and cheerfully whispered that if she could not have him, nobody else ever would.
