Chapter 10 - The New Beginning
Six months had beautifully passed since the terrifying, bloody tragedy at the downtown hospital.
I sat happily on a plaid blanket in the bright, sunny park, gently bouncing my perfectly healthy baby girl on my knee.
I had named her Hope, a beautiful reminder of the incredible strength it took to completely survive our darkest nightmare.
Alex did not survive the violent fall, passing away quietly in the courtyard while firmly clutching a photograph of us.
His tragic death was officially ruled a heroic sacrifice, but I had completely moved on from the painful memory of his betrayal.
Valerie was instantly killed on impact, finally erasing her toxic, murderous obsession from the world forever.
I had safely inherited Alex's massive life insurance policy, granting me total financial freedom to comfortably raise my daughter alone.
But I was absolutely not raising her completely alone.
Mark walked happily across the green grass, carrying two iced coffees and flashing his incredibly warm, handsome smile.
He had completely resigned from the fire department, officially choosing a much safer career to quietly protect our newly formed family.
We were blissfully happy, building a completely honest, deeply loving life entirely built on mutual trust and fierce devotion.
The horrific, suffocating shadows of the past had finally been permanently completely erased from our bright future.
Later that afternoon, I happily cleaned the living room while Mark gently rocked baby Hope to sleep upstairs.
I picked up his heavy winter jacket from the couch to hang it neatly in the front hallway closet.
A small, completely unlabelled silver flash drive unexpectedly fell out of his pocket and clattered loudly onto the wooden floor.
I curiously plugged it into my laptop, expecting to see harmless photos from our recent family vacation.

Instead, a hidden video instantly played, clearly showing Mark and Valerie laughing quietly together as they deliberately cut the elevator wires.
The final chilling sentence on the video completely revealed that Mark had secretly orchestrated the entire deadly trap just to legally steal me from his captain.
