Chapter 6 - The Flames of Obsession

The apartment instantly erupted into a massive, blinding wall of violently roaring flames.
Alex coughed aggressively as the thick, toxic black smoke rapidly filled the small living space.
He desperately charged toward the heavy front door, but the intense heat forced him backward.
Valerie completely ignored the fire spreading onto her expensive furniture, walking slowly toward him with a strange, peaceful expression.
She violently tackled him to the burning floor, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck in a deadly, suffocating embrace.
Alex fought with every single ounce of his remaining strength, brutally shoving her away and scrambling toward the balcony.
He grabbed a heavy iron chair and smashed it violently through the thick sliding glass door.
He screamed for help into the dark night, knowing his former colleagues at the fire station were the only ones who could save him.
The distant wail of approaching sirens echoed through the city streets, but the fire was spreading much too fast.
Valerie emerged from the thick smoke holding a sharp kitchen knife, her hair completely singed and her eyes totally empty.
She lunged at his chest, completely determined to end both of their lives in a dramatic, fiery tragedy.
Alex sidestepped her desperate attack, but her momentum carried her violently forward.
The severely weakened wooden floorboards beneath the broken balcony suddenly gave way with a deafening, terrifying crack.

Alex desperately reached out to grab her hand, but he was entirely too late.
He watched in absolute horror as Valerie plummeted screaming into the blazing inferno of the collapsed floor below.
