Chapter 9 - The Final Sacrifice

The fake paramedic slashed the combat knife downward, aiming directly for my throat.

I rolled hard to the left, and the sharp blade buried itself deep into the expensive leather carpeting of the plane.

Before he could pull it out, I swung the heavy iron poker upward, striking him squarely in the jaw.

He collapsed backward into the luxurious seating area, completely unconscious and bleeding from his mouth.

I scrambled to my feet just as Brian emerged from the cockpit, holding Lily violently in a tight chokehold.

He pressed the barrel of a handgun against her small temple, demanding that I drop the iron poker immediately.

I slowly lowered the weapon to the floor, pleading with my son to remember that he used to be a good man.

Brian laughed bitterly and said the money was the only thing he ever truly cared about in this miserable life.

He demanded a clear path to the backup helicopter parked on the far side of the massive airfield.

Suddenly, a loud hissing sound filled the confined space of the aircraft cabin.

Mason had sneaked onto the plane behind me and completely discharged a massive industrial fire extinguisher directly into Brian's face.

A thick, blinding white cloud of chemical foam instantly filled the entire cabin, completely obscuring everyone's vision.

Brian screamed in pain and dropped the handgun as the harsh chemicals burned his eyes and lungs.

I lunged forward through the white fog, blindly grabbing Brian by the waist and tackling him out the door.

We tumbled violently down the metal stairs, crashing brutally onto the hard concrete of the tarmac.

I pinned my son to the ground, raised my fist, and punched him until he entirely stopped fighting back.

I looked up, breathing heavily, and saw Mason safely leading his crying sister down the stairs of the plane.

It was finally over.

But out of nowhere, a second black SUV burst onto the runway, accelerating at terrifying speed directly toward me.

Marissa was behind the wheel, having escaped her zip ties, and she was screaming like a total maniac as she tried to run me over.
