Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

I grabbed Brian by the collar and aggressively rolled both of us out of the path of the speeding vehicle.
Marissa completely missed me, but she lost control of the heavy SUV on the slippery, fuel-soaked tarmac.
The vehicle spun wildly out of control and crashed head-on into the massive steel wing of the grounded jet.
The airbags deployed instantly, trapping a dazed and defeated Marissa inside the completely ruined car.
Within seconds, heavily armed federal agents and local police completely swarmed the airfield from every direction.
They dragged Brian and Marissa away in heavy iron handcuffs, ignoring their pathetic screams and wild threats.
Detective Miller walked over, holding his bandaged shoulder, and gently wrapped thick thermal blankets around Lily and Mason.
The children ran into my open arms, crying softly but finally safe from the absolute monsters who had raised them.
A few months later, the corrupt judge and the crooked lawyer were entirely stripped of their power and sentenced to federal prison.
The massive trust fund was completely secured, ensuring the children would never have to worry about their future ever again.
I legally adopted both of them, and we moved to a beautiful, quiet farmhouse far away from the dark memories of the city.
The kids were finally thriving, playing in the warm sunshine and laughing like normal, happy children.
I tucked them into their comfortable beds that evening, feeling a deep sense of absolute peace wash over my soul.
I walked downstairs to the quiet kitchen, poured myself a glass of water, and finally allowed myself to relax.
Suddenly, the old landline phone on the kitchen wall began to ring, piercing the comfortable silence of the house.
I answered it, and a highly distorted, mechanical voice spoke softly on the other end of the line.
May you like
The voice casually explained that Brian was only a middleman, and the syndicate was still owed their valuable merchandise.
The man whispered that they were standing in my backyard right now, and they had already cut the power lines.
