Chapter 8 - The Tarmac

The police cruiser smashed entirely through the heavy steel security gates, sending twisted metal flying into the air.
I drove wildly across the pristine grass and onto the main concrete runway, completely ignoring the armed guards shooting at our vehicle.
A sleek, unmarked private jet was already taxiing down the runway, picking up dangerous speed for takeoff.
Through the small oval windows of the plane, I could see Brian violently forcing Lily into a leather passenger seat.
I floored the accelerator, pushing the damaged police cruiser to its absolute physical limits.
I angled the car directly toward the massive landing gear of the moving aircraft, praying we wouldn't be crushed on impact.
At the very last possible second, I yelled for Miller and Mason to brace themselves for a severe crash.
The cruiser slammed brutally into the plane's front wheel strut, completely destroying the steering mechanism of the aircraft.
The massive jet spun violently to the left, screeching loudly across the tarmac before coming to a jarring, smoking halt.
I kicked my jammed door open and crawled out onto the concrete, pulling my trusty iron poker from the back seat.
The hydraulic stairs of the plane slowly lowered to the ground with a mechanical hiss.
Brian stepped out onto the metal steps, completely furious and holding a heavy assault rifle.
He screamed that I had just ruined his entire life and cost him thirty million dollars in trust funds.
He raised the rifle to end my life, but a sudden shotgun blast from Detective Miller forced him to take cover inside the cabin.
I rushed up the metal stairs, completely blinded by adrenaline and the desperate need to save my granddaughter.
As I entered the luxurious cabin, I was immediately tackled to the floor by the pilot.

I looked up and realized the pilot was the exact same fake paramedic who had tried to inject Lily with poison.
He smiled wickedly and pulled a jagged combat knife from his boot.
