Chapter 9 - The Ambush

Mark stopped dead in his tracks, dropping his gun instantly to the wet ground.
He raised his empty hands, begging the deranged doctor not to harm the innocent baby.
Dr. Patel laughed coldly, holding the fragile infant by the fabric of her tiny blanket.
She demanded that Mark kick his weapon away and get down on his knees.
Mark did exactly as he was told, the rough asphalt tearing through his expensive trousers.
Two massive mercenaries stepped out from the shadows of the jet, aiming assault rifles directly at his head.
Sarah and Madison were pinned down behind the car, unable to provide any covering fire.
Dr. Patel mocked Mark, telling him that a man who abandons his wife for cake does not deserve to be a father.
She turned to walk the rest of the way up the stairs into the waiting aircraft.
Mark closed his eyes in absolute, crushing defeat, preparing for the mercenaries to pull their triggers.
Suddenly, the deafening roar of a police helicopter shattered the silence of the night.
A blinding spotlight hit the stairs, completely blinding Dr. Patel and the armed guards.
A loudspeaker boomed from the sky, ordering everyone on the runway to drop their weapons immediately.
Three armored SWAT vans crashed through the perimeter fencing, surrounding the entire airplane.
The door of the lead van burst open, and a woman in a wheelchair was lowered to the ground.
It was Emily, completely pale and hooked to a portable IV, but very much awake.

She glared up at the terrified doctor and spoke through a police megaphone.
She announced that she had woken up hours ago and told the real authorities everything.
