Mark dropped his phone, the screen cracking against the hard hospital floor.
He had three babies, but only two were in that hidden room with his unconscious wife.
He desperately needed help, so he drove straight to the one person Emily trusted more than anyone.
Sarah was Emily's estranged older sister, a fierce defense attorney who hated Mark's guts.
Mark pounded on Sarah's apartment door in the pouring rain until she finally opened it.
She glared at him with pure hatred, holding a baseball bat tightly in her grip.
Mark begged her to listen, explaining the twisted game Madison and Julian were playing.
He told her about the forged medical proxy and the missing third bassinet.
Sarah slowly lowered the bat, her expression shifting from anger to genuine terror.
She pulled Mark inside and locked the heavy deadbolt behind him.
She admitted that Emily had never contacted Julian in her entire life.
Sarah pulled up her own laptop, hacking into the state's medical registry using her legal credentials.
She found the private facility where Emily was being held under a false alias.
But when she pulled up the birth records from the emergency C-section, she gasped out loud.
The official state system had been illegally altered by someone with high-level clearance.
The hospital records now legally stated that Emily had only given birth to twins.
