Chapter 8 - The Desperate Escape

Mark froze, staring down the dark barrel of Madison's weapon.
Sarah slowly reached into her purse, but Madison cocked the gun, warning her not to try anything stupid.
Madison's hands were trembling violently, and her face was streaked with ruined makeup and tears.
She confessed that Dr. Patel had double-crossed her and Julian, refusing to pay their promised cut of the money.
Worse, Julian had tried to steal the baby back from the airstrip to hold for a higher ransom.
Dr. Patel's armed mercenaries had shot Julian, and Madison needed Mark's help to save her dying brother.
Mark realized he had no choice but to trust the woman who had helped ruin his life.
He and Sarah climbed into the back of the car, and Madison slammed her foot on the gas pedal.
They tore down the dark, empty highway, pushing the engine to its absolute limit.
Madison handed Mark a spare pistol from the glove compartment, telling him the mercenaries were heavily armed.
Mark checked the magazine, his mind entirely focused on saving his innocent little girl.
They finally crashed through the chain-link gate of the private, heavily guarded airstrip.
The sleek white jet was idling on the runway, its massive engines whining as they prepared for takeoff.
Dr. Patel was walking up the boarding stairs, clutching a small, heavily insulated medical incubator.
Mark threw the car door open before the vehicle even stopped moving, sprinting across the wet tarmac.
He raised his weapon and fired a warning shot into the dark sky.

Dr. Patel turned around, a wicked smile crossing her face as she unlatched the lid of the incubator.
She held the tiny, crying newborn over the edge of the high metal stairs, threatening to drop her onto the concrete.
