Chapter 9 - The Ultimatum

"You always were too stubborn for your own good, Madeline," Noelle taunted from the catwalk.
Jeffrey and Cynthia stepped out from the shadows to join Noelle on the high metal platform.
Jeffrey looked down at the cartel boss and smiled arrogantly.
"I see you brought Victor to the party," Jeffrey mocked.
Victor pulled out his pistol.
"You stole from me, Jeffrey, and now you are going to die."
Jeffrey laughed and pointed to the massive steel support beams around the room.
The beams were wired with thick bricks of C4 plastic explosives.
"If anyone shoots, my thumb slips, and we all die in a massive explosion," Jeffrey threatened.
Madeline fell to her knees, pleading with the monsters on the catwalk.
"Please, just let Liam go," she begged through her tears.
"I will sign the company over, I will give you everything you want."
Noelle sneered down at the desperate mother.
"We do not just want the company, Madeline."
"We want you to suffer for making my son feel inferior for all those years."
Cynthia stepped forward, holding a thick stack of legal documents and a pen.
"Sign the transfer papers, and maybe we will let the rat live," Cynthia demanded.
Madeline stood up and began walking slowly toward the metal stairs leading to the catwalk.
Vance moved to stop her, but Madeline subtly waved him back.
She reached the top of the stairs and stood face-to-face with the three traitors.
She took the pen from Cynthia and signed her name on the dotted line.
Jeffrey grabbed the papers with a triumphant, greedy smile.
"Now drop the cage," Jeffrey ordered his mother.

Noelle raised the remote control, preparing to plunge Liam into the acid anyway.
Suddenly, Cynthia pulled a sleek black handgun from her designer purse and shot Jeffrey perfectly in the shoulder.
