Chapter 4 - The Nursery Safe

Vance parked the sedan two blocks away from the massive Buckhead mansion.

He handed Madeline a small, encrypted hacking device that looked like a simple flash drive.

"You have exactly five minutes before the silent alarm resets," Vance warned her.

Madeline left Liam safely asleep in the locked, bulletproof car with Vance standing guard.

She crept through the manicured bushes and bypassed the exterior security cameras.

She picked the lock on the back patio door with the tools Vance had provided.

The house was completely silent.

She silently climbed the grand staircase and walked down the long hallway.

She slowly pushed open the heavy oak door of the nursery.

Cynthia's baby, Austin, was sleeping peacefully in his designer crib.

Madeline located the large steel safe hidden behind a massive landscape painting.

She plugged the hacking device into the digital keypad.

Numbers rapidly flashed across the small screen until the heavy steel door clicked open.

She reached inside and pulled out the thick leather binder containing her company documents.

Underneath the binder, she noticed a strange, sealed medical envelope.

Curiosity overwhelmed her, and she tore the envelope open.

It was a classified DNA paternity test.

The results clearly proved that Jeffrey was not Austin's biological father.

The document listed the true father as Victor Rossi, the most ruthless cartel boss in the state.

Madeline covered her mouth in absolute shock.

Her husband was knowingly raising the son of a dangerous mobster.

Suddenly, the heavy nursery door slammed shut behind her.

The electronic deadbolt clicked loudly, locking her securely inside the room.
