Chapter 6 - The Unlikely Ally

Madeline kicked wildly, expecting to strike one of the cartel hitmen.

"Stop kicking me, it is Vance!" a familiar voice hissed from the bushes.

Vance pulled her safely down from the second-story window ledge.

They sprinted across the dark lawn just as the hitmen kicked down the nursery door above them.

They reached the armored sedan where Liam was still safely sleeping.

Vance sped away from the affluent neighborhood and drove toward the industrial district.

"We cannot go to the police," Madeline explained breathlessly.

"Jeffrey owns the local police chief, and he is working directly with Victor Rossi."

Vance tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

"Then we have to go straight to the top of the food chain."

Madeline looked at him in confusion.

"We have to arrange a meeting with Victor Rossi himself," Vance clarified.

Madeline realized it was a suicidal plan, but she had absolutely no other choice.

They arrived at an abandoned warehouse on the edge of the city limits.

Vance made a quick, encrypted phone call to a contact in the criminal underworld.

An hour later, a fleet of black luxury cars pulled into the warehouse parking lot.

Victor Rossi stepped out of the lead vehicle, surrounded by heavily armed guards.

He was an older man with cold, calculating eyes and a tailored Italian suit.

Madeline walked out of the shadows, holding the DNA test high in the air.

Victor signaled his men to lower their weapons.

"You are a very brave woman to invite me here," Victor stated calmly.

Madeline handed him the DNA test and the company founding documents.

"Your son is living in my house, and my husband is planning to steal your money," she bluffed.

Victor looked at the documents and then smiled a terrifying smile.

"I already know Jeffrey is stealing from me," Victor revealed softly.

"I was just waiting for the perfect excuse to execute him."

Victor pulled a silver pistol from his coat pocket and aimed it directly at Madeline's chest.
