Chapter 3 - The Extraction

Madeline grabbed Liam and rushed toward the tiny bathroom window in the back.

The heavy footsteps echoed violently against the thin wooden door of the motel room.

Someone kicked the door handle, splintering the cheap wood frame.

Madeline pushed the bathroom window open and climbed out into the cold night air.

She pulled Liam through the gap just as the front door was kicked completely off its hinges.

She heard the armed men shouting inside the room.

She ran through the muddy alleyway behind the motel, clutching her son to her chest.

A dark sedan suddenly sped out from the shadows and blocked her path.

The driver rolled down the window and yelled for her to get inside.

It was Vance, the private security contractor she had hired during her time in London.

She threw herself into the backseat with Liam just as the armed men rounded the corner.

Vance slammed on the gas pedal and the car tires shrieked against the wet pavement.

Bullets shattered the rear window, showering Madeline and Liam with tiny shards of glass.

Vance swerved onto the main highway, expertly losing their pursuers in the heavy traffic.

"I tried to warn you that your husband was dangerous," Vance said from the front seat.

Madeline took a deep breath and tried to calm her racing heart.

"I need to get my company back, Vance."

"The original founding documents are secured in the master safe at my house."

Vance shook his head grimly.

"Jeffrey moved the master safe yesterday."

"It is now located inside the nursery of Cynthia's baby."

Madeline realized she had to break back into the nightmare house she had just escaped.
