Chapter 7 - The Betrayal

Madeline froze as the barrel of the gun pointed perfectly at her heart.
"Why are you aiming that at me?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"Because Jeffrey offered me a very interesting deal this morning," Victor explained.
"He promised to sign the entire company over to me permanently."
"In exchange, I just have to deliver your dead body to him by midnight."
Vance slowly reached for his weapon, but a dozen laser sights instantly targeted his chest.
"Do not try to be a hero, soldier," Victor warned Vance.
Madeline's mind raced as she desperately searched for any possible leverage.
"If you kill me, you will never get access to the offshore master accounts," Madeline lied smoothly.
Victor raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued by her sudden confidence.
"Jeffrey does not have the master passwords," she continued with absolute conviction.
"I locked the main corporate server remotely from London before I flew home."
"Without my biometric scan, the millions you laundered are trapped in cyberspace forever."
Victor slowly lowered the silver pistol.
He knew he could not risk losing a massive fortune over a simple assassination favor.
"You have exactly one hour to transfer the funds to my private account," Victor demanded.
He ordered his men to lower their weapons and stand down.
"Bring me a laptop," Madeline commanded, pretending to be in complete control.
Victor snapped his fingers, and a guard placed a computer on the warehouse crate.
Madeline typed furiously, pretending to access the non-existent locked accounts.
She was actually secretly emailing the real ledger data to a contact at the FBI.
"The transfer is processing, but it requires a secure connection at my main office," Madeline stalled.
Victor grabbed her roughly by the arm.
"Then we are going to your office right now."

Madeline glanced back at the dark corner where Liam was hiding in the car.
The car door was wide open, and the backseat was completely empty.
