Chapter 7 - The Desperate Escape

Gunfire erupted from the front of the warehouse, shattering the high glass windows.

Marcus fired back, providing covering fire so I could drag Daniel toward the side exit.

I hated my ex-husband, but I needed him alive to testify against his monstrous mother.

We sprinted through the pouring rain toward my parked car where Victoria and Lily were waiting.

The back window of my car exploded into tiny pieces as a bullet grazed the trunk.

I shoved Daniel into the backseat and slammed my foot onto the gas pedal.

The car roared to life, and I tore out of the parking lot at terrifying speed.

Three massive black SUVs pulled onto the highway directly behind us.

I swerved through the heavy morning traffic, desperately trying to lose our relentless pursuers.

"Hold on to Lily!" I screamed to Victoria as I took a sharp turn down a narrow alleyway.

We crashed through a chain-link fence and hid the damaged car inside an empty parking garage.

The black SUVs roared past our hiding spot, completely missing our sudden detour.

I let out a massive sigh of relief and rested my forehead against the steering wheel.

"We actually made it," Victoria whispered, shaking violently in the passenger seat.

I turned around to thank Marcus for his help, but my heart instantly stopped.

Marcus was aiming his gun directly at my daughter's head.
