Chapter 2 - The Secret Meeting
I gripped the steering wheel of my car until my knuckles turned completely white.
I unfolded the crumpled piece of paper Victoria had slipped into my hand.
It contained an address for a small, rundown coffee shop on the edge of the city.
There was also a specific time written in red ink.
I secured Lily in her car seat and drove directly to the location.
I ordered a black coffee and sat in the darkest corner of the empty diner.
Exactly ten minutes later, Victoria walked through the door wearing a dark hood pulled over her face.
She slid into the booth across from me and immediately began to cry.
"You have to believe me, Claire," Victoria sobbed quietly.
"I am not actually pregnant with Daniel's baby," she confessed.
I stared at her in absolute shock as she pulled a small cushion out from under her designer dress.
She explained that Evelyn had hired her to fake the pregnancy to secure a lucrative business merger with a traditional foreign investor.
"But the investor wants absolute proof of a biological heir before signing the contracts," Victoria explained.
