Chapter 3 - The Legal Ambush

I screamed and threw my body over Lily to protect her from the flying glass.

Two men in dark suits stepped through the broken window frame.

They were not holding weapons, but they moved with terrifying and calculated precision.

One of the men handed me a thick, sealed legal folder.

"Claire Jensen, you have been served," the man stated in a robotic voice.

I ripped open the envelope with trembling hands as the men walked away.

The document was an emergency custody injunction signed by a powerful federal judge.

Daniel was officially claiming that I was an unfit mother suffering from severe psychiatric delusions.

The order demanded that I surrender Lily to child protective services within twenty-four hours.

I looked at Victoria, who was hyperventilating under the table.

"Evelyn owns that judge," Victoria whispered in absolute terror.

I pulled the heavy leather purse onto my lap and unzipped the hidden compartment.

I took out the certified forensic audit I had spent the last eighteen months compiling.

The document proved that Evelyn had embezzled the entire trust fund and that Daniel's signature was forged on every corporate tax return.

"We do not need to run from them anymore," I told Victoria with a fierce smile.

I looked out the broken window and realized a black SUV was waiting for us in the parking lot.
