Chapter 7 - The Hostage Situation

"Where is my daughter?" Daniel screamed into the rain.

The lead mercenary cocked his assault rifle.

"Hand over the drive, and you get to live," the mercenary shouted back.

"I need to see her first!" Daniel demanded, refusing to move.

A sleek black SUV suddenly sped onto the runway from the shadows.

The tires screeched as it halted aggressively between the van and the plane.

The back door opened, and Richard Vance stepped out under an umbrella.

He held a tablet computer in his hand.

He turned the screen toward Daniel.

It showed a live video feed of Emma and Megan sitting tied up in their own kitchen.

A masked man stood behind them with a weapon.

"Hand it over, Daniel, or I give the order," Richard sneered.

Daniel’s hands shook uncontrollably.

He took a step forward, holding the drive out in the freezing rain.

Victoria suddenly grabbed his wrist, stopping him.

"If you give him that drive, he will kill us all anyway," she whispered.

"He cannot leave witnesses."

Daniel knew she was right, but he had no other choice.

He yanked his arm free and walked toward Richard.

"Take it," Daniel said, his voice breaking.

"Just let them go."

Richard smiled triumphantly and reached for the small device.

Suddenly, a blinding spotlight illuminated the entire runway from above.

A deafening roar rattled the windows of the SUV.

A massive commercial airplane swooped incredibly low over the airstrip.

The jet engines created a hurricane of wind, blowing Richard off his feet.

The mercenaries scattered in panic to avoid the massive landing gear.

Captain Reynolds’ voice suddenly blared through a stolen police megaphone from the control tower.

"Nobody moves, or I drop a Boeing 747 on your heads!"
