Chapter 10 - The Final Choice

Daniel took the envelope with a nervous smile.
He opened it and read the official contract inside.
It was not for the regional operations supervisor position.
Victoria was offering him the role of Vice President of Global Operations.
The salary was four times what he had ever hoped to earn.
"I don't know if I am qualified for this," Daniel admitted honestly.
"You operate flawlessly under pressure, you protect your people, and you cannot be bought," Victoria said.
"That makes you the most qualified man I know."
Daniel signed the contract without another moment of hesitation.
He was finally able to quit his grueling grocery delivery jobs.
He bought Emma the new bicycle she had been begging for.
He started reading her bedtime stories every night without falling asleep in the chair.
Life settled into a beautiful, peaceful routine.
Daniel was a respected executive, and his financial struggles were completely gone.
One evening, after tucking Emma into bed, Daniel walked into his luxurious new home office.
He turned on his desk lamp to review some harmless quarterly reports.
He noticed a small, beautifully wrapped gift box sitting in the center of his desk.
He assumed it was a congratulatory gift from Victoria for a successful first month.
Daniel carefully pulled the ribbon and lifted the lid.
Inside the box lay a single, perfectly polished silver bullet.

A handwritten note rested beneath the deadly object.
"Richard was just a middleman, Mr. Carter, and now you owe the Cartel a company."
