Chapter 7 - The Ransom

Panic finally threatened to completely overtake Alessia's iron resolve.

Her mother was gone, snatched right out from under her nose by ruthless people.

Her burner phone rang with a restricted number, and she answered it immediately.

"Come to the old shipping yard alone, or she dies screaming," Garrett's voice hissed through the speaker.

He didn't sound arrogant anymore; he sounded desperate and unhinged.

The offshore accounts must have already been successfully frozen by her hacker.

Alessia grabbed the keys to a stolen car and sped aggressively toward the docks.

The rain poured down in heavy sheets, matching the violent, churning storm in her chest.

She arrived at a rusted warehouse and kicked the heavy metal door open without hesitation.

Garrett was holding a sharp hunting knife to Miriam's throat, while Evelyn stood nearby holding a briefcase.

"Sign the transfer documents legally this time, and we will leave the country peacefully," Evelyn demanded.

Alessia slowly walked forward, pulling a gold fountain pen from her jacket pocket.

She looked at her terrified mother, whose eyes pleaded with her to just run away.

"Let her go first, and I will sign whatever you want," Alessia bargained calmly.

Garrett laughed nervously, his grip tightening dangerously on the handle of the blade.

"I don't think you are in any position to negotiate, little girl," he sneered at her.

Alessia smiled, a remarkably dark and terrifying expression crossing her face.

"I wasn't actually negotiating with you," Alessia said softly.

She snapped her fingers loudly in the empty air.

Dozens of red laser sights instantly appeared on Garrett and Evelyn's chests from the shadows.
