Chapter 9 - The Final Standoff

Nathan and I rushed completely out of the flooded basement and sprinted heavily back up the grand marble stairs.

We found Marco bleeding badly from a deep shoulder wound near the shattered glass of the front entrance.

He pointed weakly outside toward the heavily manicured and sprawling green gardens.

Dr. Aris was desperately trying to escape over the high security brick wall near the decorative fountain.

Nathan ran aggressively outside into the freezing rain with absolute unadulterated murder in his dark eyes.

I followed closely behind him, my heavy heart hammering violently against my bruised ribs.

The highly arrogant doctor slipped awkwardly on the wet grass and fell incredibly hard onto his back.

Nathan walked slowly and methodically toward him and pressed the hot barrel of his gun against the doctor's sweaty forehead.

He heavily demanded to know exactly which rival mafia family had ordered the brutal hit on his innocent children.

Dr. Aris laughed weakly and spit dark red blood onto the perfectly cut green grass.

He claimed loudly that the powerful people who hired him were far more dangerous than any local street mafia.

He stated clearly that they were a global organization that specialized in erasing powerful bloodlines without ever leaving a trace.

Nathan cocked the heavy metal hammer of his gun, entirely losing the very last bit of his strained patience.

He commanded the terrified doctor to give him a highly specific name immediately.

Dr. Aris slowly opened his mouth to finally speak the name of his mysterious employer.

Suddenly, a single highly suppressed gunshot echoed faintly from the distant tree line beyond the security wall.

A massive high-caliber sniper bullet struck Dr. Aris perfectly in the exact center of his chest.

The doctor's eyes went completely blank as he died instantly on the freezing wet grass.

The invisible sniper had permanently silenced their only solid lead to tightly protect the organization's deadly secret.

Nathan stared intensely out at the dark woods, completely realizing this terrifying war was far from actually over.
