Chapter 9 - The Eviction

Daniel froze entirely as Evelyn Vance walked confidently down the porch steps.

He stared at the unfamiliar woman in the expensive tailored suit with absolute confusion.

Evelyn handed the lead police officer the freshly recorded warranty deed and the final settlement statement.

She calmly explained that she had purchased the house from me earlier this afternoon.

The officer reviewed the official documents with the raised county seal and nodded respectfully.

He handed the crumpled forged paper back to Daniel and told him it was completely worthless.

Daniel's face turned a sickening shade of pale gray as the reality of the situation crashed into him.

He began stammering wildly and claimed that I had no legal right to sell a house from right under him.

I stepped forward and reminded him that my name was the only one ever listed on the original mortgage.

I told him that locking me out of the house in the rain was the biggest mistake of his life.

The police officer turned to Daniel and ordered him to step off Evelyn's private property immediately.

Daniel fell to his knees on the wet grass and started crying uncontrollably in front of everyone.

He begged me to cancel the sale and promised he would delete Jessica's number from his phone.

I looked at him with absolute disgust and told him I already had the burner phone.

A second yellow taxi suddenly pulled up behind the police cruiser.

Daniel's mother and sister climbed out of the cab hauling massive luxury suitcases.

They had apparently taken a different flight and had just arrived straight from the airport.

His mother marched up the driveway completely ignoring the police officers.

She laughed mockingly at me and said I was pathetic for trying to scare them with the cops.

She proudly declared that they still had eighty thousand dollars of my money and they were going to ruin me.

I smiled warmly at her arrogant face and pulled a formal legal document from my purse.

I told her she should probably check her own bank account balance before making any big threats.
