Chapter 4 - The Stolen Diamond

I stared at the screen as Daniel's mother practically flaunted my grandmother's diamonds for the camera.
She was sipping a tropical cocktail and bragging about how her son always treated her like a queen.
I had hidden that necklace in a locked digital safe in my master bedroom closet.
Daniel must have cracked my personal safe while I was in the delivery room pushing our child into the world.
My sadness completely evaporated and was instantly replaced by a cold and calculated rage.
I contacted the title company and demanded they expedite Evelyn's cash purchase immediately.
The escrow officer warned me that the pending forged deed created a massive cloud on the title.
She stated that the only way to clear it quickly was to have Daniel physically sign a rescission document.
Getting Daniel to sign anything while he was avoiding me in Cabo was absolutely impossible.
I paced around Sarah's living room trying to find a legal loophole in the property code.
I remembered that I had installed hidden security cameras in the living room three months ago.
I quickly opened the security app on my phone and scrolled back to the day before I went into labor.
The high-definition footage showed Daniel sitting at the dining table with a fake notary stamp.
I watched a clear video of my husband forging my signature on the fraudulent quitclaim deed.
I immediately forwarded the video file to the escrow officer and the county fraud investigator.
The title company instantly removed the cloud on the property and cleared the house for the sale.
I smiled as I realized I was finally one step ahead of his malicious scheme.
Suddenly a loud knock echoed through Sarah's small house.
I opened the front door and found a grim-looking process server standing on the porch.
He handed me a thick manila envelope and quickly walked back to his car.
I tore the envelope open and my heart completely stopped beating.

Daniel had secretly filed for emergency full custody of our newborn daughter.
The legal documents claimed that I was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis and was a danger to the child.
