Chapter 6 - The Frozen Funds

Daniel cursed loudly into the phone and demanded that I transfer money to his account immediately.
He told me the luxury resort was threatening to kick his entire family out onto the street.
I kept my voice completely calm and level as I spoke to my furious husband.
I explained that the bank's fraud department had automatically frozen the joint account.
I told him I had reported his eighty-thousand-dollar transfer as a highly suspicious and unauthorized transaction.
His mother started screaming in the background that I was a vindictive and horrible wife.
Daniel threatened to call his lawyers and destroy my life if I did not unlock the funds.
I gently reminded him that his forged home equity loan had also been completely canceled by the lender.
I had forwarded the video of his forgery to the bank manager just an hour ago.
Silence fell over the phone line for several long and agonizing seconds.
Daniel finally realized that his massive financial safety net had completely evaporated into thin air.
He changed his tone and tried to sound sweet and loving like he used to be.
He begged me to unfreeze the cards and promised he would fly home tomorrow to fix our marriage.
I told him to enjoy the rest of his vacation and immediately ended the call.
I knew he was going to scramble to the airport and try to stop me from taking control.
I needed to finalize the sale and pack up my belongings before his plane touched down in the city.
I drove back to the Hillcrest house with Sarah and two armed private security guards.
I entered the new door code that my lawyer had legally compelled Daniel's security company to provide.
The heavy wooden door swung open to reveal the house I had lovingly built for my family.
I walked into the master bedroom and began throwing my clothes into large heavy trash bags.
I opened Daniel's nightstand to search for my grandmother's jewelry box.
Instead of the box I found a cheap prepaid burner phone hidden underneath his socks.
