Chapter 3 - The Hidden Eye

Two agonizing days later, I was finally discharged from the hospital with my precious, fragile baby girl.
My fierce attorney, Rachel, picked me up and safely drove me back to my suburban house.
When I unlocked the heavy front door, I gasped aloud in absolute, paralyzing horror.
The entire beautiful house had been completely ransacked and violently destroyed.
The expensive living room furniture was overturned, the kitchen drawers were emptied, and my carefully decorated nursery was torn apart.
Rachel immediately pulled out her cell phone to dial emergency services and call the local police.
I quickly stopped her, suddenly remembering the secret security camera I had installed in a potted plant last month to catch a neighborhood package thief.
I rushed to my home office laptop and frantically pulled up the encrypted cloud storage account.
My hands shook violently as I clicked on the motion-activated footage from the previous night.
The high-definition video clearly showed Mark and Vanessa gleefully destroying my beautiful home.
They were frantically tearing up the expensive wooden floorboards as if they were looking for something incredibly specific.
In the recorded video, Vanessa yelled aggressively at Mark to find the blue folder before I came home.
Mark screamed back at her that Carol must have hidden the vital documents somewhere else.
I paused the video and looked at my lawyer in total, overwhelming confusion.
I had absolutely no idea what mysterious blue folder they were desperately searching for.
Rachel calmly asked me if Carol had ever given me any personal items to hold onto for safekeeping.

My blood ran completely cold as a sudden, highly specific memory hit me like a freight train.
On the chaotic day of my wedding, Carol had secretly slipped a heavy blue envelope into the inner lining of my vintage wedding dress.
