Chapter 19 - The Final Standoff
Elena stared at Daniel in absolute, paralyzed shock as the reality of his words finally crashed down on her.
Her entire life's work, her meticulous, murderous planning, had been completely wiped out by a few lines of code.
“No... No, you couldn't have done that! The security protocols were flawless!” Elena shrieked, dropping to her knees on the wet asphalt.
“Your security was arrogant, Mom. Just like you,” Daniel replied coldly, never lowering his weapon.
The blinding rage suddenly returned to Elena's eyes, far more dangerous and unhinged than before.
If she couldn't have the money, she was going to ensure that absolutely no one survived the night.
She raised her silver revolver again, screaming in pure frustration as she prepared to pull the trigger.
Daniel braced himself, fully prepared to shoot his own mother to protect his little sister.
Suddenly, a deafening array of wailing sirens completely completely drowned out the roaring thunderstorm.
A massive convoy of heavily armored federal vehicles came tearing around the bend of the highway, their red and blue lights flashing violently.
Daniel had given the 911 dispatcher enough information before the call dropped, and the authorities had tracked the ping of his cell phone.
Dozens of armed federal agents leaped from the vehicles, raising high-powered rifles and tactical shields.
“FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP THE WEAPON NOW!” the lead commander roared through a heavy bullhorn.
Elena looked at the massive wall of federal agents, entirely surrounded and completely defeated.
She slowly lowered the silver revolver, letting it clatter uselessly onto the wet, dark road.
Two agents rushed forward, aggressively slamming her onto the hood of the SUV and ratcheting heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists.
“You are a monster, Daniel! You are just like your father!” Elena screamed hysterically as they dragged her away into a transport vehicle.

Daniel slowly lowered his pistol, dropping it into the mud as the adrenaline finally left his exhausted body.
He fell to his knees on the highway and pulled Emma into the tightest, safest embrace of his entire life.
