Chapter 7 - The Hostage Trade

A tall man stepped out of the darkness holding a high-powered shotgun.

It was Viktor Volkov, the ruthless head of the rival Russian syndicate.

He smiled cruelly at the sight of the dying billionaire and his plain housekeeper.

Viktor mocked Dante, saying it was pathetic to bleed out in a dirty basement.

He demanded that Dante sign over his offshore holding accounts before he died.

If Dante refused, Viktor promised to torture Mara slowly right in front of him.

Dante coughed up a small amount of blood, his dark eyes burning with absolute defiance.

He looked up at Viktor and quietly agreed to sign whatever was necessary to let Mara go free.

Mara felt tears sting her eyes, shocked that the ruthless mafia boss would surrender his empire to save a servant.

Viktor tossed a waterproof tablet and a digital stylus onto the muddy floor.

Dante reached for the tablet with trembling, bloody fingers.

Sienna suddenly walked out from behind Viktor, her silver dress ruined by dirt and grease.

She laughed loudly, calling Dante a weak, sentimental fool for caring about a nobody.

She pointed her silver pistol at Mara's head, entirely ready to execute her the moment the transfer was complete.

Mara noticed a heavy, rusted steam valve directly above Sienna's head.

She knew exactly how much pressure was currently running through those ancient building pipes.

Mara grabbed a loose brick from the floor and hurled it violently upward.

The brick smashed the rusty valve completely off its metal hinges.

A massive cloud of boiling, pressurized steam erupted directly into Sienna and Viktor's faces.
