Chapter 3 - The Safe Room
The solid green light meant the explosive signal had just been activated.
Mara did not wait for the billionaire or his heavily armed guards to react.
She grabbed the heavy ceramic vase from the table and sprinted down the hallway.
She knew the exact layout of the penthouse better than anyone else in the building.
She threw open the heavy steel door of the reinforced panic room at the end of the corridor.
She hurled the vase deep inside the dark room and slammed the steel door shut.
She threw her entire body weight against Dante, tackling him to the marble floor just as the shockwave hit.
A deafening explosion shook the entire penthouse, rattling the expensive windows in their frames.
Thick white dust and smoke billowed out from the edges of the heavy safe room door.
Dante coughed and looked down at the plain housekeeper shielding his body.
Sienna screamed hysterically from the other side of the hallway, perfectly unharmed but acting completely devastated.
Sienna pointed an accusing finger at Mara through the settling dust.
She loudly claimed that Mara must have planted the bomb herself to extort the family.
Three of Dante's security guards instantly drew their weapons and aimed them directly at Mara's head.
Mara slowly raised her hands, realizing how easily she could be framed for this disaster.
Dante stood up and ordered his men to lower their guns immediately.
