Chapter 4 - The Service Elevator

The realization hit the dusty hallway like a physical blow.

Dante's own personal security team had been bought off by his enemies.

The lead guard coldly told Dante that his reign over the city was officially over.

Sienna let out a terrified sob and begged the men not to hurt her.

Mara knew that begging men with guns was a completely useless strategy.

She reached backward and slammed her hand against the hidden fire alarm panel on the wall.

Deafening sirens blared instantly, and thick chemical foam sprayed rapidly from the ceiling sprinklers.

The sudden chaos blinded the corrupt guards for just a few precious seconds.

Mara grabbed Sienna's wrist and pulled her forcefully down the service corridor.

Dante fought off the lead guard, disarming him with brutal, practiced efficiency.

He sprinted after the two women as bullets shattered the priceless artwork on the walls behind him.

Mara led them directly to a hidden service elevator used only for garbage disposal.

She used her master keycard to bypass the security lock and pry the rusty doors open.

They all crowded into the tiny, dark box as the elevator began to rapidly descend.

Sienna pushed Mara away in disgust, wiping the dirty foam from her designer dress.

She hissed that she would rather die than be saved by a lowly servant.

The elevator suddenly jolted to a violent stop between the twentieth and nineteenth floors.

Sienna reached into her expensive handbag and pulled out a small, silver pistol.

She aimed the weapon directly at Dante's heart with a wicked, triumphant smile.

She whispered that she was the one who paid the guards to betray him.
