Chapter 2 - The Red Light

Sienna immediately tried to laugh off Dante's serious question.
She claimed the clumsy housekeeper was just admiring things she could never afford.
Dante did not even look at Sienna.
His dark, intense gaze remained entirely focused on Mara.
Mara took a deep breath and pointed a shaking finger at the black vase.
She stated evenly that there was a live surveillance device planted inside the floral arrangement.
Sienna gasped and nearly dropped the heavy ceramic pot onto the floor.
Dante stepped forward smoothly and took the vase from his fiancée's trembling hands.
He reached inside the foam and pulled out the small black square.
His expression remained completely unreadable as he examined the blinking red light.
He asked Mara how she knew the florist was a fake.
Mara explained that the man had perfectly clean hands and photographed the hallway exits instead of the flowers.
Dante slipped the device into his pocket and turned to his head of security.
He ordered the building to go into immediate lockdown.
Sienna crossed her arms and angrily demanded that Mara still be fired for insubordination.
Dante finally looked at Sienna with eyes as cold as absolute winter.
He told Sienna that the plain housekeeper she just slapped had just saved all their lives.
The red light on the device suddenly stopped blinking and turned solid green.

Dante realized out loud that it was not just a listening device.
It was a remote detonator.
