Chapter 6 - The Basement Labyrinth

The parking garage erupted into a deafening storm of flying lead and shattered concrete.

Dante provided heavy suppressing fire while grabbing Mara by the arm.

They sprinted toward the sub-basement access door as Sienna screamed for her men to kill them.

Mara kicked the heavy maintenance door open, pulling Dante into total darkness.

She locked the deadbolt just as heavy bullets began denting the steel from the other side.

Dante clicked on a small tactical flashlight, revealing a maze of ancient, abandoned boiler rooms.

He looked at Mara, his chest heaving as he fought to catch his breath.

He asked her how she knew to tie a fake slipknot in the dark elevator.

Mara admitted that her criminal justice classes were just a cover story.

Her father had been a legendary safecracker and escape artist who taught her everything before he died in prison.

Dante's eyes widened slightly in genuine surprise and deep admiration.

He realized the quiet, invisible housekeeper was the most dangerous woman he had ever met.

They navigated the dark, dripping tunnels, moving silently past massive rusted pipes.

Mara led them to an old Prohibition-era smuggling tunnel she had discovered during her cleaning rounds.

They could hear the mercenaries loudly breaking through the steel door far behind them.

Dante stopped suddenly, gripping his side as dark blood began to soak through his expensive tailored shirt.

A stray bullet had caught him deep in the ribs during the garage shootout.

He collapsed against the damp brick wall, his tactical flashlight tumbling to the ground.

Mara knelt beside him, pressing her hands desperately against his bleeding wound.

From the shadows of the tunnel ahead, a cold voice told them not to move another inch.
