Chapter 9 - The Safe House

Gunfire ripped through the stage curtains, forcing Leo to dive for cover.
He grabbed his hysterical mother by the waist and dragged her off the stage.
Monica was waiting at the emergency exit, bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to her shoulder.
“We need to leave, now!” Monica screamed, firing wildly into the crowd.
They escaped through the maintenance tunnels and stole a parked getaway car.
Leo drove recklessly through the city, finally arriving at an abandoned safe house in the docks.
Monica collapsed onto a dusty sofa, clutching her bleeding shoulder.
Sarah huddled in the corner of the room, shivering and staring at Leo in sheer disbelief.
“Julian faked the car crash,” Sarah whispered, her memories slowly piecing back together.
“He told me you died, and he locked me in a basement for a decade to control Evelyn.”
Leo felt a murderous rage boiling in his veins.
“It’s over now, Mom,” Leo said softly, handing her a blanket.
“We are going to take Julian down and get Grandmother back.”
Sarah shook her head, a dark realization washing over her pale face.
“Julian is a monster, but he isn't smart enough to orchestrate an international syndicate,” she warned.
“Someone else has been pulling his strings from the very beginning.”
Before Leo could ask who she meant, the heavy wooden door of the safe house was kicked open.
A tall man stepped into the room, holding a silenced pistol.
It was Arthur, Evelyn’s loyal, trusted family lawyer.
Arthur smiled warmly as he pointed the gun directly at Leo’s forehead.

“I am so glad you found her, Leo,” Arthur said smoothly.
“Now I can finally eliminate the entire bloodline at once.”
