Chapter 4 - The Enemy's Offer

Leo stared at the deadly explosive rolling against his knee.
He didn’t hesitate for a single second.
He grabbed the grenade and hurled it back up through the open hatch.
“Look out!” one of the mercenaries screamed above him.
Leo covered his head as a deafening explosion rocked the elevator shaft.
Dust and debris rained down, but the hatch was blown wide open.
Leo climbed the jagged metal, ignoring the burning pain in his arms.
He pulled himself onto the second-floor maintenance level just as police sirens wailed outside.
Julian and his men were completely gone.
Leo stumbled out of the service exit and into the freezing rain of the city streets.
He had to find his grandmother and stop Julian from stealing the empire.
But he was just a janitor with no money and no resources.
A sleek black SUV suddenly skidded to a halt on the wet pavement right in front of him.
The tinted window rolled down slowly.
Monica, the cruel store manager, was sitting in the driver’s seat.
Her face was bruised, and a trail of blood dripped from her forehead.
“Julian just tried to kill me because I know too much,” Monica gasped.
She unlocked the passenger door and pushed it open.
“Get in if you want to live.”
Leo hesitated, wondering if this was another trap.

The sound of police dogs barking aggressively grew louder from the alleyway behind him.
Leo climbed into the SUV, and Monica slammed on the gas pedal.
