Chapter 8 - The Ghost

Leo could not breathe.
His mother had been dead for ten years, buried in a closed-casket funeral.
Yet here she was, bruised and chained to a chair on a stage surrounded by criminals.
“Fifty million!” a Russian mobster shouted from the front row.
“One hundred million!” Julian’s voice echoed from a private VIP balcony above them.
Leo completely lost control of his emotions.
He drew his weapon and fired a shot directly into the grand chandelier above the stage.
The massive crystal fixture crashed down, crushing the auctioneer instantly.
The entire theater erupted into absolute chaos.
Billionaires screamed and scrambled for the exits as gunfire echoed through the cavern.
Leo sprinted down the aisle, tackling a guard who was trying to drag his mother away.
He punched the guard in the face and grabbed the keys to unlock her chains.
Monica provided covering fire, shooting two approaching syndicate thugs.
“Mom, it’s me!” Leo yelled, ripping the heavy chains off her wrists.
“We have to get out of here right now!”
Sarah looked at him, her eyes wide with absolute, unadulterated terror.
She scrambled backward, pressing herself against the bloody stage floor.
“Get away from me!” Sarah screamed hysterically.
Leo reached out his hand, tears streaming down his face.
“Mom, please, it’s Leo!”
Sarah looked directly into his eyes and shook her head violently.

“You are a liar!” she shrieked.
“My son died in a car crash ten years ago!”
