Chapter 5 - The Burning Safehouse

Bullets tore through the thin metal walls of the auto shop like angry hornets.

Dante crawled across the oil stained floor and grabbed a heavy wrench from the scattered tools.

He threw the wrench violently against the overhead door switch to create a loud distraction.

The heavy garage door began to grind upward and the assassins focused their fire on the opening.

Dante used the blind spot to slip out the back exit into the freezing rain.

He sprinted back to the armored vehicle where Sarah was hiding with the children.

He jumped into the driver's seat and slammed the accelerator to the floor.

They tore through the alleyway and escaped the ambush by mere seconds.

Sarah looked at her hands and cried silently because she knew her brother was dead.

Dante felt a strange pang of guilt for the girl who had just lost her only family.

He drove them to an off grid safehouse located deep in the dense forests of Wisconsin.

The cabin was heavily fortified and stocked with enough supplies to survive a long siege.

Dante carried the sleeping twins inside and placed them gently into a large bed.

Sarah walked into the kitchen and began preparing warm milk with trembling hands.

Dante watched her from the doorway and realized she possessed a quiet and profound strength.

He walked over to her and gently wiped a streak of grease from her pale cheek.

The brief moment of sudden vulnerability hung heavily between them in the silent cabin.

Sarah looked up into his eyes and for a second the terror of the night melted away.

She reached out and rested her hand softly against his chest.

Dante suddenly noticed a small blinking red light glowing through the fabric of her canvas bag.

He grabbed the bag and ripped it open to reveal a military grade GPS tracker hidden in the lining.

The assassins had not found them by accident because Sarah had led them straight to the door.
