Chapter 2 - The Shattered Glass

Dante released her arm and stumbled backward as if he had been physically struck.

His mind raced through the horrific memories of his wife burning inside that twisted metal wreckage.

He demanded that Sarah tell him the name of the clinic immediately.

Before Sarah could answer the question, the thick nursery windows exploded inward.

Shards of bulletproof glass rained down over the nursery floor like deadly confetti.

Dante lunged forward and threw his massive body over Sarah and his twin daughters.

The deafening roar of automatic weapons echoed relentlessly through the dark bedroom.

Red laser sights cut through the shadows and danced across the shredded walls.

Dante pulled his heavy pistol and fired blindly into the night to force the snipers back.

He grabbed Sarah by the collar and dragged her toward the secret panic door behind the bookshelf.

He shoved the crying twins into the dark tunnel and pushed Sarah in right behind them.

Dante slammed the heavy steel door shut just as three armed mercenaries breached the nursery.

He locked the vault and turned on his tactical flashlight.

Sarah was sobbing uncontrollably as she clutched the terrified twins against her chest.

Dante realized that the mercenaries were wearing the tactical gear of the Kowalski syndicate.

He asked Sarah if she had told anyone from the syndicate about her new job.

Sarah swore on her life that she had kept the location a complete secret.

Dante checked his phone and saw that the estate's internal security system had been manually disabled from the inside.

Only one other person besides Dante had the administrative codes to shut down the grid.

Dante looked down the dark tunnel and realized the traitor was his most trusted butler.

Arthur was waiting at the end of the corridor with a suppressed rifle aimed directly at Sarah's head.
