Chapter 7 - The True Mastermind

I stared blankly at David’s phone, the horrific words burning themselves permanently into my retinas.
My highly trusted attorney, the man who had flawlessly managed my grandmother’s company for years, was working with Vanessa.
Daniel and Dr. Hale were never the real, calculating masterminds of this incredibly twisted operation.
They were just greedy, disposable pawns, perfectly set up to take the fall while David easily secured the twelve million dollars.
David quickly noticed my horrified expression and immediately shoved his phone deep into his suit jacket pocket.
His warm, highly comforting smile vanished instantly, rapidly replaced by a cold, deadly, and calculating stare.
He looked over at the paramedic in the back of the ambulance and gave a slow, deliberate nod.
The paramedic did not say a single word in response.
He simply pulled a heavy syringe full of clear liquid from his medical bag and stepped ominously toward me.
I realized with absolute terror that he was not a real paramedic; he was one of David's hired, ruthless men.
I clutched my newborn son tightly to my chest, completely and utterly trapped in the back of a moving vehicle.
I had successfully escaped my murderous husband and my corrupt doctor, only to be delivered directly into the hands of the real killer.
David calmly explained that as my lead attorney, he held full, unrestricted power of attorney over my entire estate.
With Daniel securely going to prison for my murder, David would completely control all the company's lucrative assets.
He bragged that Vanessa had been his secret partner since the very beginning, manipulating Daniel to keep him constantly distracted.
I desperately begged David to just take all the money and leave my innocent baby alone.
David sighed heavily and said he simply could not afford to leave any loose ends, especially not a legitimate heir to the estate.
The fake paramedic grabbed my arm violently, preparing to inject the lethal dose directly into my exposed IV line.
I screamed loudly and kicked wildly, successfully knocking the deadly syringe out of his gloved hand.
The fragile needle shattered against the metal wall of the ambulance, spilling the toxic liquid everywhere.
David cursed loudly, swiftly drawing a small, suppressed pistol from a hidden ankle holster.
He aimed the weapon directly at my face, deciding he had to finish the job the messy way.
Suddenly, the speeding ambulance swerved violently to the right, throwing all of us completely off balance.

A massive, heavy black SUV had intentionally rammed directly into the side of our vehicle at full speed.
The ambulance tipped entirely onto its side, metal screeching horrifyingly against the asphalt as we crashed.
