Chapter 5 - The Hostage

Daniel walked slowly and deliberately toward us, keeping the gun leveled directly at my bleeding brother's chest.

He brutally kicked Ethan's legs out from under him, forcing him flat onto the oily concrete floor.

I screamed in terror and dropped to my knees beside Ethan, desperately pressing my bare hands against his bleeding shoulder.

Daniel sneered in disgust and told me to get up and step far away from him.

He casually mentioned that the original plan had changed, and he was no longer waiting for a surgical accident to kill me.

He tossed a heavy set of metal handcuffs to the ground and ordered me to secure my brother to the car's steering wheel.

I flatly refused, crying hysterically as warm blood rapidly seeped through my trembling fingers.

Daniel coldly cocked the hammer of the gun and aimed the barrel directly at Ethan's head.

He gave me exactly three seconds to comply before he pulled the trigger and ended my brother's life.

With trembling, blood-stained hands, I picked up the cold metal cuffs and secured Ethan tightly to the vehicle.

Ethan looked up at me with fading, pained eyes and whispered for me to run as fast as I could.

But there was absolutely nowhere left for a heavily pregnant woman to run in this dark garage.

Daniel aggressively grabbed me by the hair and dragged me toward a black medical transport van parked nearby.

Dr. Hale was sitting calmly in the driver's seat, his white medical coat heavily stained with soot from the smoke grenade.

Daniel shoved me violently into the back of the dark van and locked the heavy doors from the outside.

The interior was terrifyingly set up like a mobile surgical room, complete with a metal table and leather restraints.

Daniel climbed into the back with me, keeping his weapon drawn and pointed at my stomach.

He told Dr. Hale to drive us immediately to the abandoned warehouse district on the edge of the city.

I sat on the cold floor of the moving van, feeling another incredibly intense contraction ripple through my body.

My water suddenly broke, completely soaking my hospital gown and pooling on the metal floorboards.

Daniel looked down at the fluid in utter disgust, muttering that this entire process was going to be messy.

He pulled out his phone to call Vanessa and check on why she had not met them in the garage.

The call went straight to voicemail, which made Daniel curse loudly and kick the side of the metal table.

Suddenly, the van slammed to a violent, screeching halt, throwing us both forward into the metal bulkhead.

The back doors were ripped open from the outside, revealing the blinding, flashing lights of an armored SWAT vehicle.

My corporate attorney, David, stood right behind a wall of tactical officers, holding a stamped federal warrant in his hand.
