Chapter 3 - The Threat

The bathroom door swung open to reveal Dr. Hale standing with a shiny master key in his gloved hand.
Daniel stood right behind him, angrily wrapping a white handkerchief around his bleeding wrist.
Dr. Hale looked at me with absolute disappointment, treating me like I was simply a misbehaving child.
He stepped into the confined bathroom and cornered me against the cold porcelain sink.
He casually mentioned that they knew all about the audio recording I had just sent to my brother.
Daniel stepped forward, his eyes burning with a desperate, unhinged kind of rage.
He demanded that I hand over my phone immediately and log into my cloud account to delete the files.
I held the phone tightly against my chest and absolutely refused to give them anything.
I told them my corporate attorney already had the file, and deleting it here would not save them from prison.
Dr. Hale chuckled softly, a deeply unsettling sound that made my blood run completely cold.
He explained that a digital audio file without physical context could easily be dismissed in court as an AI deepfake.
He calmly stated that my lawyer would need me alive to testify to the recording's authenticity.
And according to Dr. Hale, I was absolutely not going to survive this medical procedure.
He pulled a sharp surgical scalpel from his white medical coat and took another step closer.
He told Daniel to hold me down so he could induce labor manually and make it look like a tragic hemorrhage.
I closed my eyes, preparing to fight for my life and the life of my unborn child.
Suddenly, the fire alarm in the hospital hallway began to blare with a deafening, piercing shriek.
Flashing white strobe lights pierced fiercely through the crack under the main suite door.
Someone began pounding aggressively on the door of our room, shouting official orders.
A voice announced over the intercom that the entire building was being evacuated immediately due to a severe chemical fire.
Dr. Hale cursed aggressively under his breath and turned his head toward the loud noise.
I did not hesitate for a single second.
I shoved Dr. Hale hard into Daniel, grabbed my phone, and bolted past them into the chaotic hallway.
The hospital corridor was rapidly filling with thick, gray smoke and panicked, screaming patients.
I spotted my brother Ethan at the very end of the hall, holding a deployed, smoking canister.

I ran toward him, feeling a massive surge of hope, until a woman stepped out of a nearby stairwell to block my path.
It was Vanessa, Daniel's pregnant mistress, and she was holding a heavy steel fire extinguisher.
