Chapter 3 - The Blackout Escape

I screamed and blindly swung my heavy medical flashlight toward the terrifying voice in the dark.

The beam of light illuminated the face of my nursing supervisor, Brenda, who was clutching her bleeding nose.

Brenda angrily revealed that she had intentionally cut the power because Marcus Vance was paying her a massive fortune.

She had secretly tipped off the criminal syndicate the moment the abandoned baby was registered in our system.

Wade did not hesitate for a single second to deal with the traitorous supervisor.

He grabbed Brenda by the collar of her scrubs and shoved her forcefully into a heavy storage closet.

I quickly locked the deadbolt, trapping the corrupt supervisor inside with the medical supplies.

Wade ordered me to lead the way down the emergency stairwell because the elevators were completely dead.

I quickly grabbed a portable oxygen tank and a specialized neonatal medical bag before running toward the stairs.

We descended four flights of concrete stairs in total darkness while the baby remained miraculously quiet in Wade's arms.

My heart pounded furiously against my ribs as heavy, frantic footsteps echoed loudly from the floors directly above us.

Marcus's men were actively hunting us with tactical flashlights and military precision.

We finally reached the subterranean parking garage, bursting through the heavy fire doors into the cold night air.

Wade quickly located his heavily modified, armored black pickup truck parked in the darkest corner of the garage.

He unlocked the doors and carefully secured the baby into a temporary nest of blankets on the back seat.

I jumped into the passenger seat just as three armed mercenaries spilled out of the stairwell behind us.

Wade threw the massive truck into reverse and slammed his foot entirely down on the accelerator.

We smashed aggressively through the wooden exit barrier, speeding recklessly into the dangerous city streets.

I thought we had finally managed to lose them in the chaotic downtown traffic.

Then a massive, heavily armored black SUV violently T-boned the passenger side of our truck at an intersection.
