Chapter 2 - The False Agents

A wave of absolute terror washed over me as the man pointed the silenced pistol directly at Wade.

I instinctively stepped between the armed intruders and the incubators, desperately holding up my hands.

I warned them that hospital security was heavily armed and currently patrolling the hallway right outside.

The shorter man laughed cruelly and revealed that they had already neutralized the security guards on this entire floor.

Wade remained completely calm, his protective instincts turning him into an impenetrable wall of muscle.

He recognized the intricate scorpion tattoos on their necks, identifying them as ruthless hitmen for Marcus Vance.

Marcus was the most notorious crime boss in the city and the abusive monster Maya had been desperately running from.

Wade explicitly told the men that they would have to kill him before he ever let them touch his grandson.

The armed man sneered and raised his weapon perfectly level with Wade's head.

I knew I had to do something incredibly reckless before a completely innocent child was murdered in my unit.

I violently shoved a heavy metal medical cart directly into the knees of the gunman.

He stumbled backward with a loud curse, his silenced pistol firing wildly into the acoustic ceiling tiles.

Wade immediately capitalized on the distraction and delivered a devastating front kick to the second man's chest.

The hitman flew backward through the swinging doors, crashing violently into the hallway walls.

Wade grabbed my arm with his free hand and urgently pulled me toward the emergency exit doors.

Suddenly, every single light in the hospital abruptly flickered and died.

The backup generators failed to engage, plunging the entire floor into pitch-black darkness.

A cold hand suddenly grabbed my shoulder in the dark, and a voice whispered that we were not going to make it out alive.
