Chapter 14 - The Matriarch's Demand

I slowly picked up the sleek black envelope, my hands trembling as the chilling silver calligraphy stared back at me.

It was the exact same paper and ink used by the human trafficking syndicate that had stolen my daughter Lily.

Isabella was not just Marcus's secret lover; she was the supreme mastermind behind the entire underground network.

I tore the envelope open, pulling out a heavy, wax-sealed letter written in elegant, ruthless handwriting.

I read the words aloud, my voice echoing coldly through the empty steel vault.

"Lorenzo, you played the role of a loving husband perfectly, but I was never meant to be a mafia housewife."

"I used Marcus to produce an heir that would permanently secure my legal claim to the Rossi estate, and then I bought Elena's child to use as ultimate leverage."

My breath hitched painfully in my throat as her sick, twisted master plan finally unraveled before my eyes.

"Now that you have transitioned the empire into legitimate shipping lines, the company is worth billions on the global market."

"I have the master ledgers, and I have initiated a hostile corporate takeover. By midnight tomorrow, you will be completely bankrupt."

Lorenzo's face remained entirely stoic, but his dark eyes burned with an incredibly violent, lethal fury.

I continued reading the final, terrifying paragraph of the letter.

"However, I am a reasonable woman. Surrender your remaining assets, sign over the offshore accounts, and bring my biological son, Leo, to the docks at Pier 4."

"If you do not return my son and my money, I will send my executioners to the penthouse to slaughter you and your precious new maid."

I dropped the letter onto the cold floor, absolute disgust washing over me.

She had abandoned her newborn baby to fake her own death, and now she wanted him back simply as a bargaining chip for corporate leverage.

"She is not getting Leo, and she is absolutely not taking our future," I stated fiercely, looking at Lorenzo.

Lorenzo holstered his weapon, pulling his encrypted cell phone from his pocket.

"She underestimates exactly who she is dealing with," Lorenzo growled, dialing a number he had not called since the war with Falcone.

"Isabella thinks I went legitimate because I grew soft. She forgot that I am the man who burned this city down to build my throne."

Within twenty minutes, we were back in the armored SUV, speeding toward a secret warehouse on the edge of the industrial district.

Lorenzo had summoned the ghosts of his past; fifty of the most lethal, loyal enforcers who had retired when the Rossi family went legitimate.

These were not corporate security guards; these were brutal, battle-hardened veterans of the bloodiest mafia wars in the country.

We walked into the warehouse, and the massive crowd of armed men instantly fell completely silent out of sheer respect for their king.

Lorenzo stood on a wooden crate, his commanding presence filling the cavernous room with absolute, terrifying authority.

"My late wife has returned from the dead to threaten my family," Lorenzo announced, his voice echoing like thunder.

"Tonight, we remind the shadows exactly why they fear the name Rossi."
