Chapter 5 - A Cage of Lies
I screamed and threw my hands up.
Dominic didn't hesitate.
He raised his own gun and aimed it squarely at Marcus’s head.
He demanded to know how Marcus found us.
Marcus kept his gun trained on me.
He said he put a tracker in Dominic's jacket this morning because he knew Dominic was hiding something.
Marcus looked at me with a mixture of pity and disgust.
He told me that Dominic was a liar.
He claimed Dominic was the one who orchestrated Sofia's accident ten years ago to secure total control of the family business.
My mind spun in circles.
I looked at Dominic, searching his face for any sign of guilt.
Dominic’s expression was cold as ice.
He told Marcus to drop the gun, swearing on his mother's grave that he never hurt his sister.
Marcus laughed bitterly.
He said Sofia found out Dominic was stealing from the cartel, and she was going to expose him.
I didn't know who to believe.
The man who paid my salary, or the man holding a gun to my heart.
Dominic took a slow step forward.
He told Marcus that if he really believed that, he would have killed Dominic ten years ago.
Marcus’s hand trembled slightly.
He admitted he only found the proof yesterday.
Before Marcus could pull the trigger, the motel window shattered inward.
A hail of bullets ripped through the room.
Marcus took a hit to the shoulder and went down hard.
