Chapter 9 - The Fire and the Fury

Black smoke quickly filled the grand hallways of the Castellano estate.
Vincent fired his remaining three shots, dropping two of Salvatore's men in their tracks.
He threw the empty gun away and grabbed a heavy combat knife from a fallen guard.
Camille suddenly burst through the basement door behind him, soaked in tunnel water.
She had managed to pry the emergency release valve open and climb out with Adeline.
Vincent handed Camille a fallen rifle and told her to protect the child at all costs.
They fought side by side through the burning dining room, taking down enemies in the smoke.
Vincent moved like a ghost, using his knowledge of the house to ambush the intruders.
He took a bullet to his left shoulder but refused to stop fighting.
They finally broke through the back doors and ran out onto the massive green lawn.
The fresh air hit them just as a loud chopping sound echoed from the sky.
A black helicopter was landing directly in the center of the rose garden.
Salvatore stepped out from the shadows of the hedges, holding a massive shotgun.
He struck Vincent in the ribs with the weapon, sending the wounded boss to the grass.
Before Camille could raise her rifle, two men grabbed her arms and pinned her down.
Salvatore reached down and snatched Adeline from her mother's desperate grasp.

He carried the screaming toddler toward the waiting helicopter.
Vincent watched the spinning blades power up as he bled onto the dirt.
