Chapter 2 - The Safe Room

Camille stared at the gun pointed at her heart in absolute disbelief.
She screamed that she had been in the laundry room the entire morning.
Marcus ignored her pleas and signaled his men to restrain her.
Two massive guards grabbed Camille by the arms and dragged her away.
Adeline began to cry, dropping her green stuffed alligator on the floor.
A guard gently carried the sobbing toddler away to a secure guest bedroom.
Back in the office, Lena managed to stabilize Vincent just enough to move him.
They transferred him to a stretcher and rushed him to the underground medical bay.
The estate felt like a tomb as heavy steel shutters locked over every window.
Marcus paced the surgical gallery while Lena operated on the boss.
He wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead and checked his encrypted phone.
An hour later, the heart monitor in the surgical room beeped with a steady rhythm.
Lena stepped out of the room with blood on her surgical gloves.
She told Marcus that Vincent had survived the bullet but was barely conscious.
Marcus pushed past the doctor and entered the sterile room alone.
Vincent opened his eyes, his breathing shallow and ragged.
Marcus leaned in close to hear the boss's whispered words.
May you like
Vincent did not ask for revenge against Camille.
He looked Marcus in the eyes and whispered a warning about the security chief himself.
