Chapter 15 - The Ultimatum

Vincent reached the basement level only to find the heavy steel door of the vault blown completely off its hinges.
The room was filled with thick gray smoke, and the bodies of his elite guards were scattered across the floor.
He dropped to his knees, frantically searching the rubble for his wife and daughter.
Camille was slumped against the far wall, bleeding heavily from a wound on her forehead, but she was alive.
She grabbed Vincent’s collar, crying hysterically as she choked out the words that broke his heart.
The Russians had taken Adeline.
Elias dragged a surviving Bratva soldier into the room, kicking the man behind the knees to force him down.
Vincent pressed the barrel of his pistol against the Russian's temple and demanded to know where they were taking his child.
The bleeding man laughed and spat on the floor, telling Vincent that Nikolai Volkov, the Czar of Chicago, was waiting for him.
The soldier handed Vincent a burner phone, stating that Nikolai wanted a parley at the abandoned steel mill by the river.
If Vincent brought the police or an army, Adeline would be dropped into the freezing waters of Lake Michigan.
Vincent shot the soldier without a second thought, his eyes burning with a dark, murderous rage.
He helped Camille to her feet and told Elias to gather every remaining man who could still hold a rifle.
