Chapter 6 - The Freezing Docks

The Fulton fish packing plant was a decaying monstrosity of steel and concrete resting over the frozen river.
Alessandro’s men moved like ghosts through the snow, silently taking out the Russian guards patrolling the perimeter.
Bruno walked beside Alessandro, heavily sedated with painkillers but tracking the scent with relentless focus.
They reached the heavy iron doors of the main warehouse floor.
Alessandro gave a hand signal, and his men breached the entrance with blinding speed.
Inside, the stench of rotting fish and frozen saltwater was overwhelming.
In the center of the massive room, suspended over an open floor grate above the freezing river, sat Sophia.
She was tied to a metal chair, shivering violently in her thin dress.
“I wouldn’t take another step, Moretti,” a voice echoed from the catwalk above.
Victor Romanov stepped into the harsh fluorescent light, holding a heavy electronic detonator.
Red blinking lights wired to the support beams around Sophia illuminated the dark water below her.
“You actually came for a housekeeper,” Victor laughed, shaking his head.
“The great Alessandro Moretti, brought to his knees by a nobody.”
Alessandro didn’t look at the explosives or the dozen armed men stepping out of the shadows.
He only looked at Sophia, silently promising her that she would survive this.
“Let her go, Victor, and I might let you leave this city alive,” Alessandro said.

Victor smiled, a cruel, soulless expression.
He pressed the red button on the detonator.
