Alessandro moved faster than the eye could follow.
Before the young guard could clear his gun from its holster, Alessandro’s hand wrapped around his throat.
He slammed the traitor against the mahogany door frame, lifting him off his feet.
Bruno continued to bark aggressively, snapping at the man’s tactical boots.
“Why does my dog smell their blood on you?” Alessandro hissed.
The guard gasped for air, his hands clawing uselessly at Alessandro’s iron grip.
“They paid me,” the guard choked out.
“They paid me to leave the south gate unlocked.”
Marco stepped forward, pressing the barrel of his pistol against the traitor’s kneecap.
“Who paid you?” Marco demanded.
“Victor Romanov,” the guard cried.
“He said he only wanted the woman to use as leverage against you.”
Alessandro dropped the man in disgust.
The realization hit him like a physical blow.

They had found his one vulnerability.
“Lock him in the basement,” Alessandro ordered his men.
He turned toward the door, buttoning his long wool coat over his tactical vest.
He was going to tear the Fulton fish plant apart brick by brick.
As he reached the hallway, he felt a tiny tug on his coat.
